Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Physical Plant Director the Security Officer will assist Nursing and the medical staff in maintaining a safe and secure therapeutic environment for residents, staff, families and visitors by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times. Performs daily rounds and egress/ingress control. This position responds to and participates in various drills, and other emergencies. Guides/directs other disciplines during crisis intervention, as necessary. Encourages proper Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) methods to unit staff. Provides timely information and feedback to on-duty Incident Commander, Physical Plan Director and others as necessary. Maintains radio or other communications to report status or incidents, or to request additional assistance or response. May be involved with vehicle and radio maintenance, safety inspections and related documentation.
Tentative start date will be dependent upon interviews conducted, onboarding completed, and the state agency issuing a PO.

Job Duties:
- Performs daily quarterly and as needed rounds, including but not limited to egress/ingress control of Mining Hospital. Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Respond to incidents to include but not limited to on-site escalations. Work and interact with various disciplines and other first (1st) responders to de-escalate the critical conflicts in resident care areas and grounds, looking first to enlist cooperation with residents (or others) in resolving any negative intensification of behavior. Physically restrain a perpetrator as needed in order to ensure resident and staff safety until relieved by higher authority. Assist in resident relocation efforts if necessary.
- Responds to fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for assignment, by the supervisor, or through training or certification.
- Writes and submits appropriate related reports as necessary, confers with the supervisor and others as appropriate. Assists in problem solving and decision making.
- May assist with vehicle and radio maintenance, safety inspections, etc. Will attend related training classes.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Federal and state laws and due process as it relates to safety and security of the hospital campus.
- Proper methods and circumstances requiring use of force.
- Proper methods to be used when transporting residents.
- Seclusion and restraints, and risks involved.
- Methods and techniques and practices of operating two-way radios, security cameras, security devices, electronic doors, electronic sound equipment, telephone system and intercom system.
- Evacuation procedures including the use of fire extinguishers, sprinklers, test valves and their operation.
- Report writing.
- Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
Skills in:
- Applying and interpreting safety and security, custody, and consequence measures.
- Personal safety techniques - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification
- Basic first aid and CPR. -Oral and written communication.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, residents, visitors and local law enforcement agencies.
- Hospital emergency response techniques;
- Providing on-the-job training to new and existing staff.
- Verbal de-escalation techniques and language, as taught in the Crisis Prevention
- Intervention (CPI) Verbal Escalation Continuum.
Ability to:
- Learn and interpret the homes rules, regulations and procedures as it relates to the safety and security of the campus.
- Drive state vehicles recognize and report safety hazards.
- Respond to Procedure as defined in the Emergency Preparedness Manual.
- Provide verbal and/or physical intervention in critical interactions.
- Guide and lead staff from various disciplines in proper NVCI techniques as necessary.
- Maintain a calm and even temperament during stressful conditions.
- Apply appropriate restraint techniques.

Selective Preference(s):
At least one year of progressive responsibility in a security and/or safety setting,
preferably in a health care facility or in hospital/institutional security, or law
enforcement work experience.

Must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card
APS Registry Verification
Guard Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Service
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
